Boyd Byrd, MD

Dr. Byrd is a board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologist dedicated to excellent patient care and service. He received his B.A. from Princeton University in 1991, and his M.D. from Medical College of Virginia in 1995. After his internship, he spent five years in postgraduate training at the prestigious Yale University, completing his Diagnostic Radiology Residency in 2000, and a fellowship in Interventional Radiology in 2001.

While at Yale, where Dr. Byrd was also chief radiology resident, he received outstanding training and experience in all aspects of general diagnostic radiology. He gave presentations at the Radiological Society of North America on research in the fields of ultrasonography and neuroradiology. His other research, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, included patients with liver vascular malformations and involved CT, MRI, ultrasound, angiography, and clinical presentation. He was the only resident member of a panel discussion at the Association of University Radiologists, speaking on the increasing demand for radiology services across the country.

During his fellowship, he was trained and performed the latest techniques in all aspects of peripheral interventional radiology. His experience includes diagnostic and minimally invasive interventional techniques used for the evaluation and treatment of diseases involving the arteries and veins, gastrointestinal and biliary tract, genitourinary system, musculoskeletal system, neurological system, and pulmonary system.

Dr. Byrd is a member of the American College of Radiology and the Society of Interventional Radiology. His interest in radiology started at a young age, as he had the opportunity to see his father, an interventional radiologist, interpret studies, perform procedures, interact with referring physicians, and care for patients.

He joined RRA in 2003 after practicing in a large multi-specialty group in Tyler, TX, where he helped build a radiology division and develop a large referral base. He was extremely well-respected by his partners, referring physicians, technologists, nurses, staff, and patients for his compassion, his dedication to superb patient care, and his excellent skills.
